Final Details

Final details for South of Scotland Orienteering League Event 1, presented by Tayside Orienteers.

Travel Directions

Parking will be at Culteuchar Farm (Grid ref NO082159)

There will be a £1 car park charge.

Please arrive before 12.30 as the track to the farm is narrow – we will allow cars to exit after 1240.

A note from the organiser (15 Oct): The track to the car park was somewhat rough (though I went up it several times in my Mondeo, and Stirling Surveys had no problems). The farmer has since filled in the main potholes, though I have not yet been to see. I will update this page with more information before the weekend.

Update from Dave Prentice (18th Oct): The farmer has done a great job, as he promised, making up the track to the farmhouse. So there is no problem getting a car to the farmhouse. From there, a 'standard' car (eg mine) should have no problem following the track (which is rutted but smooth grass on top), to the parking area. But if you have low ground clearance, there is a smooth (though steeper) grass option which will be fine if it stays dry and should be ok unless really wet. My VW camper negotiated the former uphill and the latter down ok. A marshal will provide directions on the day.

However, if your car has very low ground clearance or if you have a large camper or van, park on the straight section of road before the signed track and walk up – 8 mins).

From Edinburgh and the South East

From the M90, turn off at J9 into Bridge of Earn (A912). After crossing the railway bridge, turn L onto the B935 through Forgandenny, then fork left to Ardargie. Pass the turn to Ardargie and then follow signed track on the left.

NB Roadworks on Forth Road Bridge - there may be delays. Delays also expected on Kincardine Bridge. Please leave plenty of time and consider travelling via Stirling.

From Stirling and Glasgow

From the A9, at the top of Cairnie Braes turn onto the B934 for Dunning; turn R over the Earn and after the level crossing go straight (don’t go R to Dunning or L to Forteviot) to Invermay. Left at T junction. Fork R signed to Rossie Ochil and then R at T-junction. Just past the entrance to Ardargie, the drive leading up to Culteuchar Farm on your L will be signed.

Accommodation

The farmer of the land we are using for assembly, etc runs a farmhouse B&B. At this time of year, Perthshire is looking great with all the autumn colours, so if you fancy staying a night (and a lie-in on Sunday morning!), then phone: Alan Fotheringham, Craighall Farm House, Forgandenny.
