"The School of Computing is a very small and personal School. I know everyone on my course and nearly all of the lecturers so it almost feels like a family! " - Aneta Lisowska

Aneta was attracted to the School of Computing because it offers the unique BSc Honours Computing & Cognitive Science. She said:

“The course is not available at many institutions so I was really pleased when I found out that it is taught at the University of Dundee. The BSc degree is very diverse and it’s hard to describe it in just a few words. You get to learn about psychology, philosophy and computing!

“It’s great being a part of three different schools. It really opens you up to meet lots of people from a range of academic areas. You get to hear various perspectives on the one problem which can help you come up with a great solution! The course also includes lots of group work which gives you a good feel for what it could be like to have a job in this area.

Aneta found the School of Computing to be a very welcoming environment:

“The School of Computing is a very small and personal School. I know everyone on my course and nearly all of the lecturers so it almost feels like a family! The city is also really homely. It’s small but it’s a very friendly place for students to live.”

Since enrolling at the University of Dundee, Aneta has been involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities, including the International Society and a summer exchange trip to Wuhan in China. She said:

“If you get involved in societies and different opportunities, you end up meeting new and diverse people. Everybody can find a society to suit them and the School of Computing has a great society called DUCS, which runs academic talks and good social events!

Aneta’s positive experience of her course has encouraged her to pursue a career in academics. Her one piece of advice for prospective students is:

“Some people think that they won’t know what to do after studying the BSc Honours Computing & Cognitive Science, but because it’s such a dynamic course, you find that you can pursue a range of careers!”
