Our students were extremely lucky to have the opportunity to meet with two companies at a ‘Prepare for Success’ event held in the Queen Mother Building on Wednesday 1st February.
Jonty Dawson and Malcolm Brown from WRLD - a software development company based in Dundee which specialises in 3D mapping technology for developers and businesses - gave the students an insight into the fascinating work WRLD are involved with. Jonty also shared his experiences in regard to Specialist vs Generalist Software Engineers and the difference in being employed by a larger or smaller company. Malcolm shared his tips and advice on CV DOs and DON'Ts, when applying for Software Engineering Posts – essential in securing that first job.
Leonardo is an international leader in electronic and information technologies for defence systems, aerospace, data, infrastructures, land security and protection and sustainable ’smart’ solutions. It is a global company offering Summer Placements, Industrial Internships and a Graduate Programme Scheme (in locations including Edinburgh).
Software Lead Catriona Alford informed the students of all the different opportunities available at Leonardo and the application processes required. Catriona also gave examples of some CV pitfalls and mistakes that she has encountered.
Many thanks go to the three speakers (whom we hope will revisit soon) who were so informative and helpful, and also to Stephanie Brewer from the University Careers Office, for organising the event.
