The conditions at Glenalmond College for Tuesday’s evening event were at the other extreme compared with last week’s sodden St Magdalene’sHill. The sun shone and on a glorious evening the extensive grounds were at their very best, with a backdrop of the Little Glenshee hills bathed in the late afternoon light.
The thirty plus competitors enjoyed the orienteering as well, most of it being very fast around the playing fields, but with the steep wooded slopes leading down to the River Almond providing more of a challenge.
On the 4.4kms Long course, Ged Keane from Tay produced the very fast time of 34.15mins and turned the tables on David Allison from STAG who was 3 mins slower, followed by Grant Carstairs.
On the 3 kms Medium course, John Owen, benefiting from some local knowledge, completed the course in 24.30, followed by his wife Elizabeth and Robert Thornton, showing he can put in a fast time when not too many trees get in the way.
The 1.7 kms Short course saw the Black Watch cadets Martin Carter, Ross Law, Lewis MacLennan beat their fellow cadets Leslie Carter and Gail Scott, with Duncan Raitt of Tay separating them, and only a minute separating the first three teams.
