Apart from being somewhat wet underfoot, Crombie was probably somewhere near its best on Sunday, with the autumn colours mirrored in the water of the reservoir, the weather staying dry and the sun even shining for short periods. More time had gone into updating the map than planning the courses, with the result that nine newly-mapped features were among the 27 controls - and there are a few more to still be mapped. Hopefully the courses didn't suffer from neglect.
It was good to see a number of non-TAY members in this most easterly of TAY's areas - hopefully by the end of next year there will be a couple more new areas not so far distant.
On the Yellow course, Michael Jamieson zoomed round the 1.8kms in an impressive time of 11.41. On the 3.5kms Orange course, Nichola Hill finished in front of five TAY members, of whom Chantelle Eisma-Clinch did well on her first(?) Orange course, perhaps helped a little by her mum. Duncan Raitt of TAY had an excellent run on Light Green to come in second behind Clive Masson of ESOC, completing the 3.5kms in 36.07. On the Green course, Robin Hill made it a family double in a time of 55.01 for the 4.7 kms with Richard Harper of TAY and John Irving sharing second place just 3 minutes behind.
TAY's next event on Sunday Nov 29th is at Glenalmond College, which includes their golf course and an area of forestry. Although a long way from Angus, if you haven't seen the lovely grounds of one of Britain's top public schools, it is worth the journey. And remember Pitmedden this coming weekend, which if you are coming from the East is best reached along the S banks of the TAY estuary.
