This page contains information on:

Travel Directions

Parking will be at Upper Muirhall Farm (Grid ref NO145236), signposted from around the junction of the A93 and A85 (Perth bridge, northern of the two bridges over the Tay in Perth town centre). Please try and share transport.

From Edinburgh

Roadworks on Forth Road Bridge, delays of 1 hour or more expected. Delays also expected on Kincardine Bridge. Please leave plenty of time and consider travelling via Stirling.

Exit at last junction of M90 / first of A90 (Junction 11), follow signs for A85 Perth/Blairgowrie. After 2 miles travelling north on A85 you will be directed to turn right onto a narrow road for 50m, then right again up a steep hill. (Please note that it is not possible to turn right directly at the traffic light junction with Perth bridge, hence the need for the turn 50m before the junction: it is signed 'Murray Royal Hospital'). Follow road up hill for 1.5 miles to parking field.

From Glasgow

From A9 at Broxden roundabout turn right onto M90 and circle around southern and eastern edges of Perth following signs for Dundee. Where the M90 ends and A90 begins (Junction 11), turn off onto A85. Follow direction given for Edinburgh above.

From Dundee

Head west on A90 and turn off at A85 signposted Perth, follow directions given for Edinburgh above.

From Inverness

Traffic may be busy in Perth town centre on Saturday. You are advised to bypass the town to the west, south then east on A9/M90 and follow directions given for Edinburgh above.

From Blairgowrie / Coupar Angus

Head south on A93 (Blairgowrie) or A94 (Coupar Angus) towards Perth. At junction of A93 with Perth bridge turn left up steep hill. Follow road 1.5 miles to parking field.

Assembly

Assembly is an 800m walk from the parking field. Please take care on the first 100m that is on road.

The assembly is in a sizeable, gently sloping unmanaged field with a mixture of wispy grass and thicker vegetation (which will be avoided). Located here will be:

A spectator control will be visible from the SE corner of the field.

Toilets

Unfortunately Port-a-loos cannot be provided in the assembly field. The field is overlooked by some houses and we are using the field with their blessing. So please do not use any corner of the field as a toilet - please use facilities provided in the parking field.

Technical details

Terrain

Kinnoull hill is a mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland with an extensive path network. Runnability is generally good throughout.

Some of the paths in the area have recently been improved. Other paths have become less visible. The size of a path on the map therefore is not always a good indicator for the size in the field.

Kinnoull hill may be busy with dog walkers, mountain bikers and families, so please show consideration.

Maps

Maps used will be 1:10,000 5m contour interval. Updated 2004.

Control descriptions will be on the front of the map.

Electronic punching

The SportIdent system will be used. Please note that under BOF Rules it is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that the card registers when you punch at a control. The unit will flash and bleep; if this fails, you should use the conventional pin punch located on the T-bar to punch your map as evidence.

Finalising / making Changes to teams

For those team captains who have not yet declared the make-up of their teams it would be appreciated if this could be done prior to the day. Any changes should be given to the organiser before the event or on the day prior to the start.

Due to experience from previous years, captains will also be asked to confirm after their team has finished that the declarations were correct. See Teams section below for details if you will have too many or too few runners.

On the day

Team Managers should report to Registration between 11:45am and 12:45pm to make any last-minute changes and finalise their team. They will receive a bag containing any last minute instructions, further copies of this sheet, bib numbers, safety pins and SI cards.

It is vital that competitors use the S. I card they have been allocated.

The correct S. I. card number will be on the competitor bib.

Competitors should reinforce each corner with tape before pinning the bib on - otherwise the bib will rip!

Bibs are number with team number, leg number and course. E.g. 7 4G would be team 7, fourth leg, green course.

Competitor procedure

There are 5 legs of the relay, with 3 runners on Legs 2 - 4.

Collect your map in plenty of time from the map handout tent and proceed to the waiting pen. Clear and Check stations will be situated at the map handout tent. Do not open your map before you are tagged by an incoming runner.

All courses will have pictorial descriptions on the front of the map.

Apart from Leg 1, everyone must punch the Start unit once they have been tagged (there will be several available so that you don't need to fight over them!)

Starting early on any leg will result in the team being disqualified.

Race procedure by leg:

The winner of the various categories will be the Leg 5 runner who crosses the Finish Line first, not necessarily the person who punches first, and an adjudicator will be at the Finish line in case of a close result. The Finish SI unit will be situated immediately after the Finish line and must be punched as soon as possible.

Mini-mass Starts

Mini-mass starts will take place as required during the afternoon. Teams involved in these won't be eligible for team prizes.

Map Reclaim

Team map bags can be reclaimed after all Leg 5 runners have started.

Prizegiving

Prizegiving will take place at approx. 4.30pm or as soon as possible thereafter. Prizes will be awarded to:

Safety

Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

Teams

If you have an excess or shortages of runners contact the organiser who will endeavour to co-ordinate teams from more than one club.

Note that teams of 8 would be suitable; however unfortunately they cannot be competitive.
