This image shows a ring effect I saw. It extended from north-east to
north-west in what looked to be an almost perfect circle.
While browsing the web I came across the image below that was taken as part of the US Defense Meteorological Satellite Program. It clearly shows this ring effect of the aurora.

Quite a steady display this time. I only saw one ray develop but I was too slow in getting the camera set up in time to capture it.
