Applied Computing The ACTIVE Project

Draft poster for general ACTIVE publicity (possibly Automotex 2000 etc.)

The poster is in a PowerPoint slideshow file, which has the following structure. Slide 1 will go above slide 2 on the wall, which will go above slide 3, and then slide 4. Slide 5 will be to the right of slide 1 on the wall, with slides 6, 7 and 8 below it. (The poster has two columns, apart from the top title banner, which occupies the top part of slides 1 and 5.)

To view the poster straight-off in most new browsers, simply left click the above link. (To download the file associated with the above link, simply right click on the link, and choose "Save As..." or "Save Target As..." or "Save link as...").

Download: latest version of ACTIVE software (6 June 2000)

The latest version of the ACTIVE program (zipped) (less than 0.1 Mbytes) and voice files (zipped) (1.12 Mbytes), and audio files (zipped) (3.05 Mbytes) are available for download. (To download the files, right-click on each link in turn, and choose "Save As..." or "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As...").

The zip file called Program_5June2000.zip contains the program (called finger.exe) and 4 text files. These 4 text files MUST BE PLACED IN THE SAME FOLDER as finger.exe (which can go in any folder you want). ALSO, if you had old versions of these text files from a previous download, please REPLACE THEM WITH THE NEW VERSIONS (the layout of these text files have changed, the new version of the program requires the newer format).

When unzipped, ALL VOICE and AUDIO FILES MUST BE PLACED IN the folder C:\Audio (that is, a folder called "Audio", which is a "top-level" sub-folder of your C drive). Create a new folder with this name, since you'll probably not have such a folder. Beware, when unzipped, the voice and audio files require a combined space of 6.11 Mbytes.

WHAT THE PROGRAM SHOULD AND SHOULDN'T DO: Most buttons should "do something" when clicked with the mouse (including some sort of audio feedback for all buttons). If you can't here any audio feedback, it may that you don't have a utility program called Sound Recorder in the following location on your computer C:\\Windows\\Sndrec32.exe . The buttons won't change colour when the mouse moves over them - this only happens when we're controlling the cursor with the polhemus set-up. Any queries, just get in touch.

Video clips of the prototype ACTIVE system (Nov 99)

Some video clips of the prototype ACTIVE system being used are included in a slide show that is set up to run automatically (USE YOUR BROWSERS "BACK" BUTTON TO EXIT THE ROLLING SLIDE SHOW). (To view the slideshow straight-off, so long as your web browser is reasonably new, simply left click the link.)
