MemoJog

Technology

The new system makes use of the new generation of mobile telephone and palm top computing technologies. It provides predetermined memory jogging messages to the user at appropriate times about upcoming activities for the day (such as "time to take your antibiotics", "appointment at the solicitor in 30 minutes", or "time for lunch soon").

A PDA with mobile telephony is used to provide these reminders and they are announced by an alarm to the users.

MemoJog's reminders are stored in a remote server and transmitted to the device using always on GPRS mobile telephony. The users themselves can add reminders directly onto the device or carers/administrators can add reminders remotely using any internet accesible device. Reminders can also be phoned in by users/carers to admin staff or left as messages on an answer machine. The reminders are then wirelessly transmitted from the database to the PDA at the apporpriate times. The system monitors users' response to reminders and in the case of crucial reminders such as 'Take medication' can act accordingly e.g. by contacting carers/family members by text message, email or prerecorded phone message.
