Installing Endnote on the School of Computing lab machines (for SoC students at the University of Dundee
ONLY)
Installation notes prepared by
Andy Cobley and
Graeme Coleman
Endnote is now available for installation in all labs within the SoC.
The application is located in Start, All Programs, Endnote, Endnote Program.
If you cannot find Endnote on your machine, try rebooting your machine and log in again. It should appear on startup.
IMPORTANT: Integrating with Word for lab machines (only needs to be done once)
Endnote does not integrate with Word automatically. In order to use the Cite While You
Write functionality, you will need to set this up yourself.
To do this, follow these instructions:
- Close down Word if you have it open.
- Make sure all hidden files are displayed.
- Go to
My Computer, then click Tools, then
Folder Options, and then click on the View tab. Select
Show hidden files and folders.
- While in My Computer, locate the following files in C:\Program Files\Endnote X\:
- EN10CWYW.dot
- EN10Cwyw.WordXP.wll
- ENWebCwyw.dot
- If you cannot find these files, you can
download the files from the Endnote website.
(You will need to unzip this file)
- Copy and paste these three files into u:\application data\word\startup
- If this folder does not appear, copy and paste the files into this folder instead:
C:\Documents and Settings\[your name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup\
- Reopen Word - the Endnote plugin should now appear under Add-Ins (or under Tools in
earlier versions of Word, up to but not including Word 2007).
- Go back to My Computer and re-hide the hidden files (follow Step 2, but this time
select Do not show hidden files and folders)
Endnote should now be fully installed on your profile.
For more information, go to the Endnote
help section.
