What is DOTS?

DOTS is a 5 week, online module, teaching the SQL component of the Advanced Higher Information Systems syllabus.
Specifically, the module covers Data Manipulation language (DML), Data Query language (DQL), Aggregate, Sorting and Grouping Functions and Joins

What do I need to know?

We assume that you have a basic knowledge of databases, including tables, rows, columns, primary keys, foreign keys, relationships etc.

What equipment do I need?

You need regular access to a computer connected to the Internet.
One of the first tasks is to install SQLyog software which allows you to query the database. The module provides a Windows and Linux version of this software, but as yet there is no support for MAC.
The tutorials are in Word format, so Microsoft Office or Open Office are also required.

How much time do I need?

DOTS is a five week module, divided into weekly units. We recommend that you should spend around 5 hours each week on your coursework.

When it is starting?

The next run of DOTS starts on 24th May 2010. The deadline for applications is 10th May 2010.

How much does it cost?

The cost of taking the DOTS module is £100 for each person, invoiced at the outset.
