Satellite Data Reception
The Satellite Receiving Station is funded by NERC to collect information from environmental Earth observation satellites, archive the data and disseminate it to UK environmental scientists. Over the past six years Dundee has doubled its receiving capacity, brining on line additional X-band and S-band receiving systems and enhancing their flexibility. A partnership with Plymouth has yielded a combined facility: NERC Earth Observation Data Acquisition and Analysis Service (NEODAAS). The satellite data archieve represents one of the longest archives of satellite data anywhere in the world, going back to 1978. Over the next six years the group plans to enhance receiving capability further to suport direct broadcast missions for ESA.
